Reimagining the Digital Experience for Nepal's Premier Electric Motorcycles

The Yatri P2 Instrument Cluster project delivers an intuitive dashboard interface for Nepal's pioneering electric motorcycle. I designed a clean, functional display that communicates critical riding data like battery status, range estimates, and performance metrics while maintaining Yatri's premium aesthetic within limited screen space.

Beyond the visible problems of limited display space, missing ride data, and UI inconsistencies, deeper challenges included:

  • Technical constraints of the onboard computer system

  • Designing for varying lighting conditions and riders in motion

  • Addressing range anxiety through intuitive battery visualization

  • Maintaining Yatri's premium design language

  • Prioritizing critical alerts without distracting riders

My approach followed a structured methodology:

Research & Discovery

  • Analyzed competitive motorcycle interfaces

  • Collaborated with engineers to understand technical limitations

  • Interviewed riders to identify information priorities

Information Architecture

  • Created hierarchy based on rider needs and safety requirements

  • Developed screen flows for different riding modes

  • Mapped critical versus secondary information placement

Wireframing & Testing

  • Developed layouts testing different information arrangements

  • Validated designs through simulated riding scenarios

  • Iterated based on visibility and comprehension testing

Visual Design Development

  • Created a cohesive visual system with consistent iconography

  • Designed for both day and night viewing modes

  • Implemented animation concepts for transitions

Prototype & Validation

  • Built interactive prototypes simulating riding conditions

  • Tested with Yatri team and potential customers

  • Refined based on usability findings and technical feasibility

Outcome

The redesigned instrument cluster successfully delivered:
